I've not had a lot of time to blog this past year but I'd like to add more information soon about the diversity of the plants and animals here in the Yucatan. The first experiences with the exotic often comes in the market with all of the fruits we've never seen in our supermarkets at home. At first glance there does not seem to be a lot of diversity to the trees in the Yucatan. Flying over the penisula or driving along the highway we're more often than not stuck by the sameness of the jungle and the monotony of driving from Cancun to Merida. But if you look a little closer you find alot of species here that you might not know. And if you move here you'll quickly discover the endless variety of ants and that termites can eat more than wood! Until I have time to complete this blog you'll want to look at Pronatura's gallery of photos and read about the work they are doing to preserve the Yucatan.
